This short getaway packs a lot into three days. The highlight is not just the Jersey Boys Musical but also chance to experience the North Island Main Trunk Line from Hamilton to Wellington, a really relaxing way to travel. We have plenty of time for sightseeing in Wellington, a tour of Te Papa museum including the Gallipoli exhibition, - The Scale of War,  and plenty of other sights. This is a trip not to miss.

24th May

DAY 1 After picking you up at your door, we make our way to Hamilton to board the train for our trip through the stunning North Island to Wellington. The Northern Explorer is fitted with panoramic windows and spacious comfortable seating to make the trip extra special.

Leaving Hamilton, we pass the lush pastures of the Waikato, then through the rugged back-blocks of the King Country. Further on, the sheep and beef farms give way to native bush as we cross the Whanganui River and climb the famous Raurimu Spiral. As we pass the Tongariro National Park you can admire views of the 3 active volcanic cones of Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu. Enjoy lunch on board, try the open-air carriage for some fantastic photos.

Descending down through the Manawatu along the Rangitikei River, we cross some breathtaking viaducts before reaching the Kapiti Coast for panoramic sea views. On arrival in Wellington it's just a shore transfer to our waterfront hotel for a fabulous dinner where we can all share memories from the day.

DAY 2 Today we have the whole day to explore all the sights Wellington has to offer, the beautiful St Pauls Cathedral (Wellington's original cathedral) recently re-opened after remedial work, and then the Parliament precinct. We ride the Wellington Cable Car and visit the Cable Car Museum. A must visit destination is New Zealand’s national museum – Te Papa Tongarewa. Here we will enjoy a private guided tour to learn more about the unique and interesting displays, including the much-awarded Gallipoli exhibition – The Scale Of War, created by Weta Workshop.

This evening we have the highlight of the trip, the record breaking musical The Jersey Boys.

This is the story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons – the hit musical, seen by more than 26 million people worldwide, returns to New Zealand for the first time in nine years. The internationally acclaimed stage sensation tells how four blue collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the biggest American pop sensations of all time.

Day 3 Before we head to the airport today we will explore more of the city as we travel out to the Miramar Peninsular to see this less visited part of Wellington. Enjoy more sights of our nation’s often windy capital, such as the Wahine memorial before our afternoon flight back to Tauranga where we will have you home at your door in good time, with a smile on your face having enjoyed a few wonderful days on tour and the amazing Jersey Boys Musical.

* Please note, that unless specified in the itinerary we do not usually include the cost of lunches or morning and afternoon tea stops in the tour cost, but we always make stops where there are a range of options available so you can choose what you want, and have flexibility to do things on your own if you wish.
